Amazon and Walmart are the top U.S. retail e-commerce companies, according to eMarketer’s annual list. In addition, Kroger has made the list for the first time, taking the number 9 spot right before Costco Wholesale. In 2020, Kroger made over $11 billion in e-commerce sales, growing by 79 percent year over year.
Other retailers in the top ten include eBay (#3), Apple (#4), The Home Depot (#5), Best Buy (#6), Target (#7), and Wayfair (#8).
“The pandemic has shifted consumer priorities,” said Cindy Liu, eMarketer senior forecasting analyst at Insider Intelligence. “Kroger will benefit from two tailwinds this year: Eating at home continues to be in favor among Americans, and there’s been greater interest by consumers in ordering groceries online. With these two forces at play, we shouldn’t be surprised by Kroger’s strong growth this year.”
