The U.S. beverage market is benefiting from new innovations and formulations in recent years, helping the otherwise mature beverage industry to thrive, according to U.S. Beverage Market Outlook 2019 from Packaged Facts. One of the most important and recent innovations involves “mashups,” or the crossover fusion of two or more beverage products that traditionally wouldn’t go together. Packaged Facts observes three key mashup trends in the current market.
The first trend is the integration of coffee in soda, energy drinks, juice, and bottled water. Packaged Facts expects to see continued expansion of this trend as consumers seek the indulgence and flavor of coffee while also thirsting for the effervescence of a carbonated beverage, an additional energy boost, and/or more taste options.
The second trend is tea in sparkling beverages, energy drinks, and juices. In the energy drink space, tea merges not only with stimulants like guayusa, green tea, and matcha, but also yerba mate. Finally, the third trend is an increasing blurring of lines between sports and energy drinks, particularly hybrid, ready-to-drink energy teas and coffees.
