Maple Leaf Foods Launches Plant-Based Subsidiary

As part of its vision to be the most sustainable protein company on earth, Maple Leaf Foods launched Greenleaf Foods, a wholly owned, independent subsidiary that will focus on plant-based foods. Greenleaf Foods launched with two protein brands, Field Roast Grain Meat Co. and Lightlife Foods, and plans to build a portfolio of brands and products to offer consumers more plant-based food choices.

Lightlife Foods has a nearly 40-year history and makes tempeh and plant-based hot dogs. Field Roast Grain Meat Co. crafts artisanal plant-based meats and cheeses made with whole food ingredients and traditional food making practices.  Its product portfolio includes sausages, roasts, loaves, deli slices, a burger, and plant-based cheese slices. These products are sold in retail stores and are offered on more than 500 restaurant menus nationwide.

Greenleaf Foods is headquartered in Chicago and industry veteran Dan Curtin was named president.
