Candy Sales to Top $4B for Halloween

Sales of chocolate, candy, gum, and mints are expected to total $4.4 billion this Halloween, according to the National Confectioners Association, reports The Wall Street Journal. In the U.S., candy is a $35 billion industry that employs 54,000 people at nearly 1,300 manufacturing facilities.

Candy corn was ranked as the top confection for the holiday in seven states by Candystore.com, while other top candies include Blow Pops in West Virginia, Skittles in South Carolina, Swedish Fish in Kentucky, and Sour Patch Kids in Massachusetts, Maine, and New York. Saltwater taffy was among the top three in Tennessee and Wyoming and at No. 1 in Washington and Nebraska, while Life Savers came in at the top in Delaware, according to the report. Full Story (Subscription Required)
