Walmart is shutting down e-commerce site Jet.com four years after it acquired it. This follows Walmart’s announcement last June that it would absorb Jet’s staff into its operations and Jet.com's decision to end its fresh food delivery service in New York City last November.
"Due to continued strength of the Walmart.com brand, the company will discontinue Jet.com," the company said in a first quarter earnings release. "The acquisition of Jet.com nearly four years ago was critical to accelerating our omni strategy."
