Jama Network has released the findings for its Trends in Dietary Carbohydrate, Protein, and Fat Intake and Diet Quality Among US Adults report, which monitored U.S. consumers’ diets from 1999 to 2016. The report revealed that though the diet adults has improved, there is still a continued high intake of low-quality carbohydrates (products with added sugar) and saturated fat.
There was a significant increase in consumption of high-quality carbohydrates (like whole grains), plant protein, and polyunsaturated fat, though the plant protein was primarily from whole grains and nuts, not newer products like plant-based meat or dairy.
