McDonald's Tests Plastic-Free Locations

McDonald’s is testing the “Better McDonald’s Store,” a plastic-free version of the restaurant that allows the company to test out alternatives to single-use plastics, reports Food & Wine. The first test took place at the Mall of Berlin location in Germany during 10 days in June, and locations in Ontario and British Columbia are currently being tested now. Alternatives being tested include paper straws, wooden cutlery, grass-paper burger cartons, paper bags, and edible waffle cups for condiments and dipping sauces.

Customer feedback will play a large part in the test. "Normally, McDonald's goes out with perfect solutions. This time we said, 'We don't have perfect solutions yet… please help us!'" Diana Wicht, the Sustainability Department Head for McDonald's Germany, said in a statement. Full Story
