Prepared Food Department Affects Shopping Behavior

Winsight Grocery Business, in partnership with Technomic, has released the findings of its inaugural State of Retail Foodservice study, which explores aspects of the category from penetration to perceptions.

The study found that 77 percent of shoppers say that the prepared foods department continues is a key consideration in determining where to grocery shop. Fresh foods are also critical, especially among younger consumers, with 85 percent of 35- to 44-year olds saying it is a consideration.

The study also found that more shoppers have reported prices worsening in the past 12 months than getting better, and it’s showing in the data: the percentage of shoppers reporting increases in prepared foods purchases has declined 9 percent in the past two years. Full Story
