Consumers May Replace Alcohol with Cannabis

Almost half of cannabis consumers say they are likely to replace some of their drinking with cannabis in the future, according to New Frontier Data's Cannabis Consumer Series: Alcohol vs. Legal Cannabis Consumption in North America. Sixty-five percent of survey participants said, given a choice, they prefer cannabis to alcohol. However, 47 percent said their drinking had not changed in the past two years. Twenty-seven percent of cannabis users say they would prefer to stop drinking alcohol entirely.

The report found the frequency of alcohol use is correlated to the frequency of cannabis use. Specifically, daily alcohol consumers are more likely to consume cannabis daily, while those who consume alcohol once per week are more likely to consume cannabis once per week compared to any other cannabis frequency profile.
