There was a 54 percent increase in the number of organic farms in New York between 2012 and 2017, according to the latest U.S. Department of Agriculture Census of Agriculture, reports Lancaster Farming. The state is behind only California and Wisconsin in terms of organic production, with room for growth remaining, according to Pleasant Valley Farm.
USDA reported organic produce sales increased 112 percent to $206.4 million over the time frame. The farms are growing around upstate cities like Ithaca, Syracuse, and Utica, and the Hudson Valley (between Albany and and New York City's northern suburbs) is home to many organic farms. Full Story
