The Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating a multistate outbreak of salmonella linked to frozen ground tuna. The products were sourced from JK Fish of Vietnam and imported into the U.S. by Jensen Tuna.
FDA worked with Jensen to voluntarily recall the ground tuna, and authorities are advising restaurants and retailers not to sell or serve it. The affected products were packaged in one pound bags and sold in 20 pound boxes to distributors in Connecticut, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, New York, North Dakota, and Washington under lot numbers z266, z271, and z272. The tuna was intended for foodservice and isn't believed to have been sold directly to consumers.
"While we've taken quick action, work remains to address the risks and find the source of the contamination," says FDA Deputy Commissioner Frank Yiannas. FDA will continue to investigate and plans to share information as it becomes available.
