Whole Foods Market is planning to debut other store formats following its decision to back away from its 365 brand store concept, reports The Austin American-Statesman. CEO John Mackey hinted at changes coming to the chain and discussed the company's processes, his future as CEO, and Amazon's impact since it bought Whole Foods in 2017.
During the past year and a half, Whole Foods has centralized its buying procedures with suppliers, which has made its operations more simple but also made getting products onto shelves harder for some startup food companies. Mackey added that the company is changing because it wants to change, not because of Amazon, noting the merger has been positive.
Mackey did not provide any further details on the new concepts, but he did give some insight on some future product offerings including the possibility of insect-based items as well as products made with cannabis. Full Story
