Washington Considers Plastic Stewardship Bill

Washington state legislation is considering a bill that would prohibit producers, local governments, and haulers to sell plastic packaging without first developing and implementing a packaging stewardship program, reports The Daily Intake. Additionally, the bill would require each producer to ensure that a plan is submitted on its behalf to the department of ecology by a stewardship organization by June 2021.

The bill has received hearings in the Senate Environment, Energy, and Technology committee and next, the bill will go before the Senate Ways and Means committee. The House version of the bill is in the Committee on Environment and Energy, where it has had one hearing so far. Full Story
