Amazon has named a former Save-A-Lot executive its head of real estate, reports TJI Research. Patrick Waldron was previously VP of real estate and business development at Save-A-Lot, as well as VP of real estate at Lidl US. This news comes following reports of Amazon's plans to open grocery stores in the U.S., which will be separate from its Whole Food Market chain and smaller than the typical supermarket. Save-A-Lot stores are typically smaller format than major U.S. grocery stores and carry many of the company's own private label products across a variety of categories. Full Story
Meanwhile, Amazon is shutting its 87 kiosks located inside Whole Foods Markets, shopping malls, and Kohl's stores in the U.S., reports CNBC. Instead, the company will expand its Amazon Books stores and Amazon 4-star. Amazon's 4-star stores let customers browse and try some of the products that are sold on its website that have a customer rating of four stars or better.
