A bottle of whisky costing just $17.98 at Lidl won big at the 2019 World Whiskies Awards, receiving the prize for 'Best Scotch Whisky,' reports The Independent. More than 40 international experts sampled whiskies from around the world for the competition.
Among those beaten by Lidl's entry included the Johnnie Walker Black Label Scotch Whisky, which retails at $29.32 at Sainsbury's. The Lidl Queen Margot Blend Scotch Whisky is produced by using traditional whisky-making methods, including malting, mashing, fermentation, distillation, and maturation. It contains dried apricot and plum, which the supermarket says give it "a rich sweetness and depth of flavor" and is mellowed for eight years in oak casks. Full Story
