China is expected to export 300,000 metric tons of tea leaves by the end of 2018, out of 2.8 million tons of output, according the China Tea Marketing Association, reports China Daily. Green tea is the most popular category, accounting for 83 percent of exports in the first three quarters of 2018. Volumes of pu'er tea increased 21 percent on relatively light exports, at about 2,204 tons.
Demand in Europe and the U.S. remains stable, with Malaysia emerging as a potential export market. Liu Junguang, head of the Tea Trade Association of Malaysia, says a Malaysian typically consumes 900 grams of tea per year, and the country's domestic production falls short of its consumption needs.
