Just Expects First Sale of Lab-Grown Meat in 2018

Just, a San Francisco-based company, has enough cell-based meat production to pursue commercial sales, reports Bloomberg. The company aims to make its first deal by the end of 2018. Andrew Noyes, the head of communications, says the first product sold will likely be crispy chicken bites to high-end restaurants abroad due to regulatory hurdles in the U.S. Although the company is hoping to get its products on some restaurant menus, its availability will be limited for quite some time, Noyes says.

Just notes traditional meat companies are discussing the possibility of helping cell-based meat producers with distribution and providing production facilities. For example, Perfect Day Inc., which is developing an animal-free whey, plans to use Archer Daniels Midland Co.'s facilities to scale up production. Full Story
