Regional flavors, plant-based foods, and low sugar sweeteners will be some of the top trends of 2019, according to Kroger. The supermarket chain also predicts a growing number of products high in probiotics, and an increased interest in different eating styles, such as vegetarian, flexitarian, and paleo.
The company expects to see foods influenced by regions across the country, such as its Nashville Hot Chicken Chips, Pimento Cheese & Harissa Kettle Chips, and Bourbon Barrel Cola. It also forecasts that more customers will look to add plant-based fare to their diets, with items such as coconut milk, meatless patties, tofu, and lentils, as Mintel research found 31 percent of consumers participated in meat-free days once per week.
