Humm Kombucha Introduces Reduced Sugar Flavors

Humm Kombucha is launching two, reduced-sugar flavors: Raspberry Hops and Ginger Juniper, reports BevNET. Both flavors contain 5 grams of sugar and 25 calories per 8 ounce serving. Humm founder and CEO Jamie Danek said that cutting sugar is an attempt to create flavors that appeal to consumers in the middle ground between new kombucha drinkers seeking an alternative to high sugar products and experienced kombucha drinkers looking for a slightly less sweet option.

In order to achieve lower amounts of sugar, there needed to be less fruit. Moving away from sweeter fruits such as strawberry or pomegranate, Humm chose ingredients like juniper and hops to pair with ginger and raspberry to add flavor while softening sweetness. The new flavors will remain the same as Humm's core kombucha line in terms of price, nutritional content, and organic certification, according to the report. Full Story
