The Specialty Food Association invites members to be part of its leadership team beginning in January 2019. The Association's board, committees, councils, and staff have been working on a realignment of the committee and council structure with the purpose of giving all members a voice in the Association.
The previous structure of councils and committees that were focused on membership classes or channels of trade—broker, distributor, foodservice, etc.—are being replaced by a new format meant to be even more inclusive. The SFA’s board has approved a new paradigm that gives every member a voice and a chance to be heard at three new Speak Ups at the Winter and Summer Fancy Food Shows, starting at the Winter Show in January 2019, and in four new Industry Working Groups that will carry out the work throughout the year.
SFA is looking for qualified members who are interested in volunteer service to the industry and are passionate about the missions of the new Speak Ups and Industry Working Groups. Please take a look here for information on the Speak Ups and Industry Working Groups and the commitment to serve as a leader of our Association.
Speak Ups
The Speak Ups will be open forums for members to attend at the two Shows and "speak-up" about their concerns and offer insights on how SFA can further improve. We will have three separate Speak Ups designed around membership groups:
- Buyer
- Distributor/Broker
- Makers
Each Speak Up will be governed by a chair, vice chair, and secretary.
Industry Working Groups
The initiatives developed by members in the Speak Ups, plus new projects generated by our board and staff and the working groups themselves, will be carried out by the four new Industry Working Groups. These essentially will function much like the councils have done with regular meetings to advance new projects. Like the councils, the Industry Working Groups will have 15 members not segmented to one class of membership or channel of trade. The Industry Working Groups will be focused on topics germane to all members and with a diverse range of members in each group they will benefit from having a wider scope of viewpoints. The four Industry Working Groups will be:
- Legislative & Regulatory
- Preparedness/Education
- Events
- Recognition
Each Industry Working Group will be governed by a chair, vice chair, and secretary.
If you are interested in being part of the Association's leadership, go here to share your information and expertise. The deadline for submissions of interest is Friday, November 9, 2018.
