Most Won’t Reveal Progress on Cage-Free Commitments

Compassion in World Farming has released the results of the EggTrack report which covers 100 companies that announced self-imposed deadlines to transition to cage-free eggs. Only 27 percent have reported significant progress. The majority of the producers and sellers declined to report whether they have made any progress, the organization says.

Katya Simkhovich, food business manager at CIWF says switching to cage-free eggs isn’t as easy as it sounds. “There has to be a pacing in the sourcing on the company side so that the producer side can transition,” she says. This is EggTrack’s second year, and Simkhovich says it is hoping the annual release will result in forced transparency and help smooth the road to more humane supply chains, according to the report.
