Colavita Begins California Premium Olive Oil Production

<o:p></o:p>

Colavita USA has begun processing 100 percent California-made extra virgin olive oil from its new production facility in Dixon, Calif., reports the Sacramento Business Journal. The site is also equipped to bottle oil from other countries, including Italy, Greece, and Spain, and distribute the products both domestically and to Asia.

Colavita bought the Dixon warehouse in January 2016, adding to its other locations in Sant'Elia and Rome, Italy, and in Edison, New Jersey. The company's pressing, processing, and packing site takes up about half of the space at the 72,000-square-foot building, which was formerly a warehouse. The company has spent $12 million on the Dixon facility to date and plans to install solar on the site in the second quarter of 2019.

Olive oil is a high-value product that doesn't require much water or need much labor to harvest, and Yolo County and Placer County, in particular, have seen olives rise to a major crop in recent years, according to the report. Full Story
