Vegan Bakery Ramps Up Wholesale

The owner of Sticky Fingers Bakery in Washington, D.C., is revamping up her business with an eye toward scaling up her wholesale operations quickly by the end of 2018, reports Washington Business Journal. Doron Petersan is finalizing a deal to sell her cookies and other baked goods in five to 10 Whole Foods Market stores by the end of 2018, and she plans to increase her distribution from five MOM's Organic Market stores to the entire 18-store chain in the coming months.

The goal is to scale from about $60,000 in sales annually to $300,000 in the current bakery before considering expansion into a separate facility or to a manufacturing partner. The speed of the ramp-up is necessary, in part, to ensure Sticky Fingers' place in the market as dozens of other dairy-free and egg-free baked good companies creep in. Those companies include Toronto-based Sweets From the Earth, Sacramento, Calif.-based Alternative Baking Co. Inc., and Washington, D.C.-based Berg Bites. While these and other businesses like it are starting to grow in the mainstream market, Petersan wants to ensure she's still in the mix, according to the report. Full Story
