Kroger and Nuro Launch Self-Driving Grocery Delivery

The Kroger Co. and Nuro, a robotics company, have launched a self-driving grocery delivery program in Scottsdale, Ariz. Shoppers will be able to place orders through Fry Food Stores' website or mobile app. Orders will be fulfilled from a single Fry's location and will be available for same-day or next-day curbside delivery. Initially, Nuro will deploy a self-driving Toyota Prius fleet but it plans to introduce a custom R1 driverless vehicle this fall.

By participating in this pilot, Nuro gets to display that its self-driving vehicles can save people time and operate safely, and it will have an opportunity to gather information that will help it improve the experience. For Kroger, it allows the company to test and understand customer acceptance of autonomous vehicles in the effort to create a seamless shopping experience.
