Home Chef was ranked No. 3 on the 2018 Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing companies. The meal kit company focuses on low-maintenance meals, and looks to attract customers who crave Midwestern flavor profiles. In 2017, Home Chef booked more than $255 million in revenue, up sharply from the $423,207 it saw in 2014.
Analysts note that meal kit company investments are slowing, with Ellie Wheeler, a partner at Greycroft and an investor in Plated, adding, "It's a tough ride to still be invested in one of those." Home Chef was acquired by Kroger in May.
The company's founder says Home Chef's biggest challenge is making sure it has the staff and infrastructure to support its growth, and he plans to expand the company's meal concepts across different spectrums, like convenience and taste. Full Story
