Company Aims to Use Wheat Waste for Plastic Straw Alternative

HAY! Straws aims to capitalize on plastic straw bans by marketing wheat straws, reports Bloomberg. The startup is working with farmers in the U.S., Southeast Asia, and South America to obtain wheat stalks, which in many cases, were previously viewed as a waste product.

The company uses the stalks from wheat fields, cuts and rinses them in sterile water, and then ships them out. Emma Grose, a co-founder of the startup, anticipates no shortage of supply, as wheat is one of the largest grown crops around the world, according to the report. Full Story
