DoorDash to Open San Jose Ghost Kitchen

DoorDash plans to open a ghost kitchen in San Jose, California, reports Nation’s Restaurant News. The “delivery-forward” concept allows emerging and out-of-area eateries to test new markets without investing in a brick-and-mortar of their own.

The company tested the San Jose market in 2021 with a limited-time pop-up, inspiring a permanent food hall. It features 10 local and regional eateries including Aria Korean Street Food, Little Spoon boba teas, Milk Bar, and Nekter Juice Bar.

“DoorDash Kitchens is looking forward to serving the San José community once again, after a warm welcome from residents during our limited-time pop-up almost two years ago,” Ashlee Tran, head of new restaurant models at DoorDash, said in a statement. “We’re eager to continue partnering with restaurants to help them grow their business in an innovative way, while connecting customers with dining options they might not otherwise have been able to enjoy.”

This is DoorDash’s second permanent foodservice establishment, coming after the success of its first food hall that opened last year in Brooklyn. Although the location prioritizes pickup and delivery, customers can also eat in. Full Story
