Pepsico Works To Address Food Insecurity

The Pepsico Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Pepsico, is working with its parent company to expand its efforts to advance food security worldwide. Through its “Food for Good” approach, the foundation is increasing its investments in relevant programs and offering new ways to engage people in fighting hunger.

"As one of the largest convenient food companies in the world, PepsiCo plays a critical role in leveraging our resources and capabilities to create and inspire local impact on hunger," said C.D. Glin, vice president of the Pepsico Foundation and global head of philanthropy at Pepsico, in a statement. "We're answering the call to address escalating global food insecurity and we plan to continue with our significant investments. But to make a meaningful impact, everyone with a role to play in our global food systems must be a part of the solution to address the immediate need and work on approaches to prevent us from landing in this place of crisis again."

Since 2021, Pepsico Food for Good has committed over $35 million to increase access to nutritious food, and augment productivity and incomes of small-scale farmers. This year, its directives are focusing on interventions that can build long-term solutions while addressing hunger needs.

Food for Good will focus on economically empowering women through regenerative agriculture, farming practices that reverse or mitigate the impact of climate change, particularly within the African continent, Middle East, Latin America, and Asia, with the hope of impacting 3.5 million farmers and their families between 2022 and 2024.

The program also will provide students in countries including the U.S. and South Africa access to nutritious foods.

In an effort to get people involved in the fight against food insecurity, Food for Good is launching the following opportunities:

• A podcast called Journey to Zero Hunger which explores lessons and solutions to the global hunger crisis.

• A Food for good Changemaker video series showcasing ways community leaders are addressing hunger.

• A tote bag produced in partnership with Feed, a foundation using fashion to raise funds for humanitarian goals, the purchase of which will provide 10 meals to children around the world.

Lauren Bush Lauren, founder of Feed said the following in a statement about the partnership: "Our collaboration with PepsiCo Food for Good is so important. We're inviting consumers to join us in the fight to end childhood hunger in a way that is tangible, by purchasing and carrying a tote that gives back and allows them to be ambassadors for the cause when they carry it."

Pepsico and its foundation announced in 2021 Food for Good’s expansion to 28 countries along with a goal to provide access to nutritious food to 50 million people by 2030.
