Competition, Funding Increase in Grocery Delivery

Grocery delivery companies Flink and Getir have raised $240 million and $555 million in new funding, respectively, the latest investments in an increasingly competitive sector, reports Bloomberg. German company Flink, which recently partnered with German supermarket operator REWE Group, said that the funds will be used to fuel its expansion.

Getir’s new investment brings its total raised this year to almost $1 billion. CEO Nazim Salur told the Financial Times that it wanted to use the money to “go to the U.S. this year rather than later.”

These investments come as other companies and startups expand their own grocery delivery capabilities. European grocery delivery company Gorillas announced plans to expand to the U.S. last month and another company, Anycart, launched a grocery shopping enging that allows customers to shop local stores without extra cost. In addition, both Instacart and 7-Eleven added half-hour delivery to their services.  Full Story
