Autobiography of Late Trader Joe's Founder Released

A new book by the late Joe Coulombe, Trader Joe’s founder, has been released by HarperCollins, reports Progressive Grocer. The autobiography, Becoming Trader Joe, includes information about the founding of the chain, as well as the origins of employee’s Hawaiian shirts and the Fearless Flyer newsletter. Coulombe also shares his beliefs in fair wages, organic foods, and the history of private label innovations at his stores.

Coulombe started writing the autobiography several years ago. After he passed away last year at 89, co-author Patty Civalleri and Coulombe’s longtime friend and original employee Leroy Watson finished the book.

The project also has a multimedia component, as it has been pitched as a limited episode series for sale to cable and streaming platform. Becoming Trader Joe will be available at several bookstores around the country and at Amazon.com. Full Story
