Meijer’s Rivertown Market, it’s latest neighborhood grocery store which will open later this year in Detroit, will feature a 4,700-square-foot product department with a 52-foot wet wall, a variety of local and artisan products, as well as open air elements and a pedestrian-friendly design.
The location will be led by Marcus Reliford, who has been with Meijer since 2000. A Detroit native, Reliford has set a goal of featuring 2,000 local products on the store’s shelves.
“I grew up on the west side of Detroit as a kid, and came back recently to help give back and contribute to my community and city,” said Reliford, who lives three blocks from the store, in a statement. “This is our first store in downtown Detroit. There’s no one who wanted this job more than me. It feels good to be home.”
The Rivertown Market will also include a flower shop, an expansive alcohol assortment, the award-winning Mudgie’s Deli, a Great Lakes Coffee shop, and a variety of cleaning, health, and beauty care products from local, black women-owned businesses.
