Pandemic Speeds Up Snack Maker's Timeline

As part of its Q&A series with food makers, SFA News Daily asked Atsuko Boyd, founder, FoodStudio LLC, about her experience during the pandemic. Following are her responses.

What new product line do you plan to introduce?

We're in the process of a brand extension of pairing snacks, starting with kettle chips, seasoned with our patented Pairing Salts. Our brand concept, to take customers on a flavor discovery tour and teaching 'Pairing with Confidence,' remains the same for both our spices and snacks.

The distinction for our snack line is the addition of flavor profiles that are being created to pair with craft brews, as well as wine. Chips and beer, no one needs to ask twice if that combo works.

What challenges and/or opportunities presented themselves during the pandemic and how did you respond to them?

Our attack on the snack market was originally planned for year two of business in Q2 2021, but COVID sped up our opportunity timeline. Our co-packer was shut indefinitely, so rather than trying to force new sales with limited inventory, we analyzed our business plan and chips made sense.

Based on sales data, we saw consumers trending sharply towards snacks for comfort and knew that our Pairing Salts snacks concept is unique to the market to stand on its own. We are also a 'real food' brand and confident that our snacks will remain on point with consumer desires for less processed foods, healthier choices (non-GMO, Kosher, vegan, preservative free, dairy free, and low on the gluten-index), price, and eating experience even when we're safely away from the pandemic. Hopefully that will be very soon.

We're still pre-launch which we hope will happen in Q4 in time for the holidays....definitely a great time to pick-up a few bags for parties and festivities including our extra special chips for Sparkling!
