The Consumer Goods Forum has launched the Coalition of Action on Food Waste, a CEO-led initiative that brings together 14 large retailers and manufacturers with the goal of halving per capital global food loss at retailer and consumer levels. The initial members are Ahold Delhaize, Barilla, Bel Group, General Mills, Kellogg Company, Majid Al Futtaim, McCain Foods, Merck Animal Health, Metro AG, Migros Ticaret, Nestlé, Sainsbury, Tesco, and Walmart.
As part of the coalition, members will measure and report food loss data; work to reach the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 12.3, which seeks to cut global food waste in half by 2030; and address food loss at the post-harvest level by engaging with stakeholders to develop innovative and effective food loss prevention strategies.
“Food loss is a serious global problem and it can only be effectively addressed through committed collective action,” said Ignacio Gavilan, director of environmental sustainability at the CGF, in a statement. “The launch of the Coalition of Action on Food Waste is a positive and important step to creating sustainable food strategies and preventing loss, and we look forward to seeing the impact the Coalition will have on the issue.”
