The CDC, FDA, and other public health and regulatory officials in several states are investigating an outbreak of Salmonella infections that has sickened 68 people in nine states. Many of the ill people report buying bagged peaches, which evidence indicates are a likely source of the outbreak.
Prima Wawona has voluntarily recalled its Wawona, Wawona Organic brand conventional and organic bagged peaches due to possible contamination. The peaches were distributed and sold from June 1 to August 19 in supermarkets in the following states: Alaska, Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Retailers include Aldi, Target, Kroger, including Jay-C, King Soopers, City Market, Fry’s, Ralphs, Food 4 Less, Foods Co., and Smiths, Walmart, and Wegmans.
“We’re conducting this voluntary recall in cooperation with the FDA out of consideration for the wellbeing and safety of our customers and consumers,” said George Nikolich, vice president, technical operations at Prima Wawona, in a statement. “We continue to be committed to serving consumers with high quality fruit.”
