Bob Mariano, founder of the Roundy’s supermarket chain and Mariano’s Fresh Market, is returning to the grocery industry with the goal of creating a new chain, reports Crain’s Chicago Business. The new chain, Dom’s Market & Kitchen, will feature specialty foods as well as take-home and dine-in meals prepared in an open kitchen. It is scheduled to open in March 2021 at a yet-to-be-announced Lincoln Park location in Chicago.
A $10 million investment for the project was funded by Chicago-based firms Valor Siren Ventures and Cleveland Avenue. Mariano is partnering with other industry veterans like Jay Owen, grandson of Dominick’s founder Dominick DiMatteo, and Don Fitzgerald, a former executive at Roundy’s.
"Dom’s will be a neighborhood destination where consumers can drop in several times per week, explore new foods, watch the cooking process in open preparation areas, participate in a wine tasting class, dine in, or take home prepared foods or cooking ingredients," Owen said in a statement.
