Nuro has been given permission to test its self-driving vehicle on public roads in California, according to a post by David Estrada, the company’s chief legal and policy officer. This is only the second driverless testing permit the state has granted to any company.
Nuro will begin testing its R2 vehicle to make deliveries, starting in Silicon Valley. “Our plan is to begin service by making free deliveries to select customers in Mountain View and the surrounding area,” said Estrada. “This will allow us to launch a formal delivery service in partnership with local brands and retailers. The next step in the California regulatory process will be to apply for a full statewide commercial deployment permit to bring our services to California residents throughout the state.”
