Grocers Implement Social Distancing Strategies

H-E-B is trying to limit the number of customers in its stores amid the COVID-19 outbreak, reports Progressive Grocer. The store is asking consumers to assign only one family member to the grocery shopping and has put strict social distancing and sanitation rules in place to keep employees and consumers safe.

In addition, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has ordered grocery stores to cut their shopper capacity to 50 percent. Retailers are being asked to station staff at entrances and exits to ensure stores remain at half capacity and to take every other register line out of service to create more space between customers.

Other grocers like Costco, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods Market, and ShopRite are also implementing strategies to keep shoppers further apart, such as converting aisles to one-way traffic patterns to eliminate people coming within 6 feet of each other. Full Story
