Sweets & Snacks Expo which was scheduled for May 18-21 in Chicago, has been cancelled, announced the National Confectioners Association, earlier this week, which said the decision was unavoidable due to restrictions on mass gatherings related to the outbreak of COVID-19.
“We are extremely disappointed not to be able to offer the experience, inspiration, insights and connections so many in our community have come to rely on in association with the event, but the health and welfare of our community is our top priority,” according to a statement by the NCA.
The NCA will pivot its focus to a series of distance learning events this summer, as part of its Sweet Insights Unwrapped series.
The National Restaurant Association Show, that was to take place May 16 – 19, also at McCormick Place in Chicago, has likewise been cancelled due to Coronavirus concerns, its organizers announced Tuesday.
The news comes at a time when the Specialty Food Assocition remains in close contact with officials in the federal government, New York City & State, and the Javits Center in New York City where its Summer Fancy Food Show is held annually, to better understand how the COVID-19 outbreak may affect its Show in late June – 13 weeks from now.
SFA is working very closely with the Javits Center in particular to understand how recent developments in converting the space to temporary hospital space may affect the planning of the show.
Being a nonprofit organization built to serve and promote its members for the long-term, SFA is moving as rapidly as possible while also taking care to comply with its legal obligations and protect the sustainability of the SFA.
