Amazon Creates Small Business Relief Fund

Amazon has created a $5 million Neighborhood Small Business Relief Fund to provide cash grants to local small businesses in the Seattle area that are struggling during the coronavirus outbreak. The fund is intended for business with fewer than 50 employees or less than $7 million in annual revenue, a physical presence within a few blocks of Amazon’s buildings in Seattle, that are open to the general public, and are reliant on foot-traffic. The plan is for applications to be reviewed during the second half of March and funds to be disbursed in April.

In a blog post, Amazon said, “These businesses support tens of thousands of local jobs that are a critical part of the Seattle and Puget Sound economy. They’re our friends and neighbors, and we believe it’s important to try to help them confront the economic challenges that are likely to come from the COVID-19 outbreak.”
