Albertsons Cos. is preparing to go public once again, according to people familiar with the matter, reports The Wall Street Journal. In the coming weeks, the company expects to decide whether to proceed with an initial public offering that could value it around $19 billion. Albertsons has been updating IPO documents that have been filed confidentially with the Securities and Exchange Comission.
If Albertsons does go through with the IPO, it would be one of the biggest tests of the IPO market this year. Albertsons and private-equity investor Cerberus Capital Management LP have been debating whether it makes more sense to go public now or continue improving the chain and get a higher price down the road.
