Spanish restaurant Cenador de Amós has three stars in the new guide to the Southern European countries

Michelin’s latest dining guide brings the French tire company to Spain and Portugal, where 30 new restaurants receive stars, for a total of 241 starred restaurants. In the 2020 guide to the Southern European countries, there are 23 new restaurants with one star, six new two-star restaurants, and one restaurant with three stars, Michelin’s highest rank.

Cenador de Amós, which Michelin describes as “a charming mansion-palace lying in the Catabrian village of Villaverde de Pontones,” was promoted to three-star status. Naturally, the Spanish restaurant serves multiple tasting menus. It joins 10 other three-star restaurants in Spain. (There are no three-star restaurants in Portugal.)

Five of the new two-star restaurants are in Spain: Angle in Barcelona; Noor in Cordova; El Poblet in Valencia; and Skina and Bardal in Malaga. Casa de Chá da Boa Nova, located in Leca da Palmeira near Porto, Portugal, is the only new two-star restaurant from that country. In all, Portugal has seven two-star restaurants to Spain’s 29.

Among the restaurants with one Michelin star for the first time, 19 are from Spain, including Eater essential Gofio in Madrid. Epur, one of Lisbon’s essential restaurants, also appears in the guide with a star for the first time, along with three other Portuguese restaurants.
