Congresswomen Ask For Transparency on Salmonella Outbreak

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., and U.S. Representative Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., have asked Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue to reveal the beef processing plants have ben linked to a salmonella outbreak. In a letter, the congresswomen explain that according to the CDC, contaminated ground beef has caused at least eight hospitalizations and one death, but the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Services has not required the establishments that have been linked to the outbreak to take any remedial action to protect the public.

The two women also ask that Perdue answer some questions about the outbreak, including how and when the product was sampled and what the root cause of the contamination is. Full Letter
