The California Senate has passed Assembly Bill 5, which rules that restaurant delivery drivers for services like Uber Eats and DoorDash will be classified as official employees, reports Eater. This transition from independent contractors to official employees increases workers’ labor rights and access to competitive pay and healthcare.
The bill is now currently awaiting the signature of Governor Gavin Newsom. If signed, the bill will take effect on January 1, 2020. Full Story
