Wegmans will eliminate plastic grocery bags at two of its locations, reports Progressive Grocer. The pilot follows Wegmans announcement in April that it would phase out plastic bags at all of its New York state stores ahead of a state-wide ban set to go into effect in March 2020. Paper bags will still be available for customers at a 5 cent fee for each bag used.
“We are determined to do what’s right by encouraging all of our customers to switch to reusable bags, the best option to solve the environmental challenge of single-use grocery bags,” says Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans. Full Story
