Nielsen predicts that Amazon Prime Day, held over two days on July 15 and 16, will include more online grocery shopping than years previous, reports Supermarket News. The promotion, which originally focused on tech and gadgets, has now grown to include other categories like grocery, consumer packaged goods, and health and beauty aids.
Grocery represented 17 percent of total Amazon CPG sales on Prime Day last year, the second-largest category behind health and beauty, and Nielsen forecasts an even stronger performance this year. “Success will come to those who capitalize on these hugely popular categories that have previously underperformed on Prime Day, while ensuring that the best promotions also appear in stores — not just online,” says Justin Belgiano, senior vice president of consumer data practice at Nielsen.
