Hillhouse Capital Buying Loch Lomond

Hillhouse Capital is buying Loch Lomond, a Scottish whisky brand, from Exponent Private Capital. Loch Lomond's key premium Scotch whisky brands include Loch Lomond, Glen Scotia, and Littlemill. The company also has blended Scotch whiskies, vodka, and gin in its portfolio. Loch Lomond has production sites across Scotland, distilleries, and a bottling plant as well as a global distribution platform.

Since the company was bought out in 2014, it has gone from generating less than 10 percent of its revenue from overseas to earning 70 percent of its revenue from over 100 international markets. Loch Lomond and Hillhouse want to further develop that international presence and are particularly focused on Asia, where demand is growing for whiskey. "Hillhouse's experienced operational team will work closely with Loch Lomond's management to help it offer a premium consumer experience in international markets through channels like e-commerce and new retail," says Colin Matthews, CEO of Loch Lomond Group.
