Plant-Based Burgers Not Taking Away from Meat Sales

Burger King and Beyond Meat say plant-based burgers are not taking away from meat sales, reports Markets Insider. Beyond Meat reported 93 percent of buyers of its Beyond Burger in Kroger grocery stores in the first half of 2018 also bought animal protein during the same period. Consumers may have bought Beyond Burgers because their maker doesn't target vegans and vegetarians.

Burger King, which is preparing to roll out its plant-based Impossible Whopper nationwide this year after a successful trial in St. Louis, noted the same pattern. CEO Jose Cil says the company is not seeing guests swap the original Whopper for the plant-based version, but that it is seeing more new customers. Full Story
