Federal legislation was introduced by U.S. Reps. Donald Payne and David Cicilline requiring brick-and-mortar retailers to accept cash, reports Post Bulletin. The federal proposals come after local lawmakers successfully banned cashless stores in Philadelphia and New Jersey.
One proposal would prevent stores from charging cash-paying customers a higher price and empower attorneys general to intervene in civil cases brought against companies, while another would feature FTC enforcement, letting the agency craft regulations to implement the proposed law.
Unlike the Philadelphia and New Jersey laws, neither federal bill would carve out specific businesses. Full Story
