Valentine Distillery has unveiled a 10-year climate sustainability initiative that's slated to roll out in 2019. The Michigan-based company purchased equipment that will recapture 95-98 percent of water lost during the distillation process, which equals about 2,000 gallons a day at its distillery. Over the next decade, Valentine projects 4.8 million gallons of water will be saved.
Throughout the initiative, Valentine also plans to implement wind and solar-powered solutions for its production facility. The company's ultimate goal is to become carbon neutral.
Valentine will spend $500,000 on the project. "This is an investment, not a cost-savings or tax-break for us," says Rifino Valentine, founder and president of Valentine Distilling Co. "We created this initiative because it's the right thing to do. We want to inspire other businesses to join in this very important movement."
