Third Leaf Wines Acquired South Africa's Mulderbosch Winery

An investment group led by Third Leaf Partners has acquired Mulderbosch, a South African winery. Following that deal, Mulderbosch moved its U.S. distribution to Third Leaf Wines, which is a part of Third Leaf Partners. Mulderbosch produces Rose of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, and a red Bordeaux Blend branded Faithful Hound. Since 1992, the winery has exported over 40,000 cases of wine annually to the U.S.

With this deal, Third Leaf Wines has more than just import rights, says Bob Guinn, the newly appointed VP of sales. "This gives us the ability to think longer term, and fully commits us to a comprehensive sales and marketing strategy."

Third Leaf's investment has been a catalyst for Mulderbosch to continue its expansion into a broader set of sophisticated markets across the U.S., adds Alex Pagon, managing partner for Third Leaf. "We see great opportunities with this winery and property on a global scale," he says.
